Town shop: read, total and give change

Before you start

This example uses maths level 1 and English level 1. Earlier town missions introduce collecting items, totals and change separately before combining them.

Work through this example

A customer asks: “One apple and one loaf of bread, please.” An apple costs 3 star coins and a loaf of bread costs 4. The customer pays 10. These are fictional game coins, not real purchases.

Reason step by step

1. Read both the product and quantity: one apple means one apple; one loaf of bread means one loaf, not several slices. Put exactly those two items in the bag.
2. Calculate the price of each line: 1 × 3 + 1 × 4 = 7 star coins. The number of items is 2, but the price is 7.
3. Change is payment minus total: 10 − 7 = 3. Check 7 + 3 = 10 before confirming.

A mistake worth understanding

Giving 7 as change returns the price rather than the remainder. Choosing two apples because “two items” were mentioned also changes the order. Recheck quantities before calculating.

Try it yourself

At the same level, another order is two apples and one banana. A banana costs 2 star coins and the customer pays 10. Find the total and change.

Use the idea in the game

Enter the town and follow the guide to the shop. Later missions combine all three steps. Difficulty changes can alter quantities and prices on the next order, so reread them. Progress is stored in this browser; clearing its storage removes it.
